Intro
Modular Character Crochet
In video games, modular development is all around generating a suite of ‘assets’ that can be quickly recombined in different ways to create new, interesting, variants. Here in crochet land, these ‘assets’ are our patterns – in time, you’ll be able to pick from a range of features, accessories, hair styles, and more, pop them together on a base pattern and hey presto – you’ve got you’re own unique adventurer!
To get started, we’re beginning with the base pattern, the foundation that we’ll add all of those additions to. For each pattern below, you’ll see a set of photos, the first being what the base pattern looks like with no additions, and the others are inspiration for what this humble pattern can turn into.
Crochet Details
If crocheted with a 3.5mm hook, DK yarn, and tight tension, these adventurers can squeeze into a inch x inch grid alongside your other minis.
All of the below patterns are crocheted in the round without joining. The stitch count is followed by the {colour breakdown}, named by the item they correspond to so you can switch your own colours in and out with ease.
One modified stitch in these patterns is the bobble stitch and is denotated as bo4 and bo5. For bo4, bobble like normal but finish the stitch after only four loops on the hook. A bo5 is a normal bobble stitch – make all five loops then pull through.
With all of this covered, let’s get crocheting!
